NOTRE DAME, Ind. – After three weeks off from competition, the No. 18 University of Notre Dame rowing team gets a big test this weekend at the Lake Natoma Invitational, as the Irish will go toe-to-toe with six ranked squads over the course of two days outside Sacramento, California.

In addition to No. 1 Brown and No. 2 California, four other ranked foes are in Lake Natoma including No. 7 Stanford, No. 12 Wisconsin, No. 15 Gonzaga and No. 18 Iowa. Loyola Marymount and Sacramento State round out the field.

The Irish are set to compete in six races on Saturday and three on Sunday. Saturday’s action for the Irish features races against California, Iowa, Brown, Gonzaga, Stanford and Wisconsin before Notre Dame closes out the weekend Sunday against Gonzaga, Wisconsin and Iowa.

Spending the weekend at Lake Natoma offers the Irish a chance to check out the course that not only played host to the 2015 NCAA Championships but will welcome in the nation’s best this May as well.

Notre Dame has competed at the Lake Natoma Invitational in four of the last five seasons, turning in a pair of top-three finishes (second in 2011, third in 2013) in previous regatta starts before claiming the group B title last season.

Russell Dorn, athletics communications assistant director at the University of Notre Dame, has been part of the Fighting Irish athletics communications team since 2011 and coordinates all media efforts for the Notre Dame volleyball, rowing and baseball programs. A native of Greenwood, South Carolina, Dorn graduated from Furman University in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in history before earning his master’s degree in sports communications from Georgia State University in 2011.
