NOTRE DAME, Ind. – For the first time in 10 months, the Notre Dame men’s golf team will return to the links for official collegiate team competition when they travel to compete in the Camp Creek Seminole Invitation. The nine-team tournament features only ACC-school members and will take place Jan. 17-19 at the Camp Creek Golf Club in Watersound, Florida.
THE TOURNAMENT LOWDOWN
The Camp Creek Golf Club plays as a 7,159-yard, par 72. Notre Dame will joined by Clemson, Duke, Georgia Tech, Louisville, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech and host Florida State.
The Irish will play three rounds, one per day, starting on Sunday, Jan. 17. Both the first two rounds are slated to begin at 9 a.m., while the final round on Tuesday will begin at approximately 7:30 a.m.
THE LINEUP
Representing the Irish in the official lineup will be Davis Chatfield, Taichi Kho, Palmer Jackson, Andrew O’Leary, and making his first start, freshman Tucker Clark. In addition, freshman Angelo Marcon will be competing as an individual.
Jackson was a Phil Mickelson Award nominee last season, which recognizes college golf’s top freshman. Jackson led the team with three top-10 finishes, including an individual title at Quail Valley. Then there was Chatfield who posted an impressive 70.75 strokes per round average, the second best on the squad. In fact, Chatfield, Jackson and Kho all finished below a 72.0 average.
THE FIGHTING IRISH
Golf Channel correspondent Brentley Romine has the Irish ranked No. 17 in the country heading into the 2021 season. In terms of ACC power rankings, he has the Irish third behind Wake Forest and Florida State.
Notre Dame certainly has unfinished business to attend to. A season ago, the Irish made a lot of noise in the collegiate golf world, winning four of their five tournaments in the fall and climbing to a top-10 national ranking. Despite all three of last year’s seniors graduated and moved on, the Irish return a plethora of experience in Chatfield, Jackson, Alex Jamieson, Patrick Kelly, Kho and O’Leary.
Bolstering that returning nucleus are three freshmen: Clark, Marcon and Stewart Slayden.
