SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame men’s tennis team achieved its first-ever win against Stanford in program history with a 4-2 victory on Friday night inside Eck Pavilion. The Fighting Irish were 0-5 all-time against the Cardinal heading into this evening’s matchup.
The Irish are now 15-4 overall this spring, with a 5-2 mark in ACC play. The 5-2 league record puts ND solidly in 4th place. They were tied with Stanford before tonight’s matchup. Important to note that the top-4 seeds receive a double-bye for the ACC Championships next month.
The Irish won the doubles point and got off to a 1-0 start against the Cardinal. Notre Dame head coach Ryan Sachire reunited the nationally ranked pairing of No. 53 Luis Llorens Saracho and Peter Nad and he was rewarded with a dominant 6-2 victory over No. 6 Chang/Razeghi. It marked their highest-ranked win of the season.
The newly formed tandem of Sebastian Dominko and Perry Gregg then brought it home with a 6-3 win on court two over Banerjee/Leach.
In singles, Stanford rallied to claim a 2-1 lead with straight-set victories on courts five and three; however, Notre Dame responded quickly and shut the door on the Cardinal.
Luis Llorens Saracho defeated Jagger Leach 4-6, 7-5, 6-3. Next, Peter Nad knocked off No. 67 Hudson Rivera, 7-6(6), 6-3. Then, over on court two, No. 78 Perry Gregg bested Alex Change, 7-5, 7-6(3) to clinch. Both Llorens Saracho and Gregg claimed their 10th singles wins of the spring dual season.
