TOLEDO, Ohio – After making history by securing back-to-back tournament titles to start the season, the Notre Dame men’s golf team is in contention once again, this time at the Inverness Intercollegiate. The Fighting Irish (579, +11) will enter Tuesday’s final round in second place, just four strokes back from leader Tennessee (575, +7).
Speaking of being in contention for the third consecutive tournament, senior Hunter Ostrom sits four strokes back from the lead in a tie for eighth place. Ostrom has posted back-to-back finishes in the top-three and currently sits at two-over par with a 144.
In addition, Palmer Jackson continues his hot start in an Irish uniform, tied for eighth place alongside Ostrom with a 144 (+2). Then right behind the Irish duo is senior Davis Lamb, tied for 11th place with a 145 (+3)
FIRST ROUND
The Irish shot a 294 (+10) in the opening round, powered by the duo of Davis Chatfield and Palmer Jackson, who each shot a 73 (+2). Chatfield shot two-over on the front before staying even on the back half (two birdies and two bogeys). Jackson was able to rally after two double-bogeys on the front, firing off three birdies on the back-nine.
Hunter Ostrom and Andrew O’Leary followed right behind, each with a 74 (+3). In addition, Davis Lamb came in next with a 75 (+4).
SECOND ROUND
Notre Dame then posted the second lowest round two score amongst the field with a 285 (+1), jumping three spots in the standings into second place. Round two was once again powered by a duo, but this time with 70’s (-1) from Ostrom and Lamb.
Ostrom tallied a clean slate on the front-nine, which included two birdies, posting four birds on the round. Meanwhile, Lamb notched three birdies, finishing one-under on the back-half. Ostrom climbed 15 spots in the standings in round two, while Lamb climbed an impressive 23 spots.
For the second consecutive time, Jackson rallied after carding a double-bogey on the front-nine, collecting four birdies to ultimately finish at even-par.
Lastly, Chatfield and O’Leary recorded rounds of 74 (+3) and 75 (+4), respectively.
