#4 Irish Drop #19 Louisville, 15-10

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Samantha Lynch collected six points (5G, A), Kasey Choma netted four goals and Andie Aldave notched 11 draw controls as #4 Notre Dame dropped #19 Louisville, 15-10, on Sunday afternoon at UofL Lacrosse Stadium.

Jackie Wolak added four points on two goals and two assists while Madison Ahern added three points with a goal and two helpers. Kathleen Roe and Maddie Howe rounded out the scoring for for Notre Dame and Andie Aldave dished out a pair of assists.

Powered by Aldave (11DCs) and Emma Schettig (7DCs), Notre Dame earned a 21-6 advantage in draw controls on the day. 

Savannah Buchanan and Hannah Dorney each earned a pair of caused turnovers while Bridget Deehan stopped six shots to earn the victory in goal. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
Two goals by Lynch and a marker from Choma gave the Irish a 3-0 lead and the Notre Dame defense kept Louisville off the board for the first 14:40 of play.

Ahern put the Irish up 4-1 before a 3-0 Louisville run evened the contest at 4-4.

Notre Dame closed the first half with three straight goals, including tallies by Lynch, Roe and Choma, to take a 7-4 lead at the break.

The Irish and Cardinals alternated two-goal runs for the entirely of the final 30 minutes with Notre Dame getting second-half goals from Lynch (2), Choma (2), Wolak (2), Howe and Ahern.

NOTABLE NUMBERS

  • Samantha Lynch is up to a team-high 20 goals and 24 points in six games.
  • Lynch has now netted five goals twice this season, and has scored at least four goals in four of six contests.
  • With two caused turnovers on Sunday, Savannah Buchanan is up to a team-high 16 on the season and has caused multiple turnovers in five of six games this season.
  • The four points (2G, 2A) for Jackie Wolak were a career-high.
