AAMIL WAGNER
Throughout his career, Aamil has been passionate about impacting the community around him. Having benefited from the help of his community growing up, he is driven to continue to raise others around him up, providing support to return on what he has been given.
Aamil’s “why”, in his words, is to represent his family, use the gifts God gave him, and give back what people have given him. He needed support from his community when he was growing up, and he is driven to give back his time and effort to helping others in the same way.
He hopes to use his Master’s in Nonprofit Administration to start a foundation or fund that helps reduce pay-to-play fees for high school student-athletes, assisting youth athletes to be able to receive the benefits of playing sports in the community without the barrier of added costs.
His parents, Teresa and Lee, raised him to focus on his faith and his academics ahead of football, to keep his values strong and push himself in the classroom and stay involved with his family and community. His parents both work for nonprofit organizations, with his mother working at a local senior center and his father working at a local homeless shelter.
In 2024, he was honored with the Notre Dame Football Scholar Athlete Award, presented to the Notre Dame Football player who has not only had academic success, but done so in a fashion that students should emulate by connecting with faculty, utilizing resources and engaging with the campus community. He graduated in three years and is now pursuing a master’s degree in nonprofit administration.
He has appreciated the opportunity and to work with students from many different backgrounds, especially as his focus of study centers around working with others and problem solving. He has learned how data storytelling can help him go beyond working with people he knows to working with the community around him.
