FLUSHING, N.Y. — After a competitive win over the tournament’s fourth seed yesterday, senior Greg Andrews fell in the second round of the National Indoor Championships to Andrew Harris of Oklahoma, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3.
The close match leaves the initial feeling of disappointment, but head coach Ryan Sachire says the experience can only leave Andrews more capable for the upcoming spring season in January.
“Just like yesterday, today’s match was an extremely close, physical contest that came down to a couple of points here and there,” Sachire said. “I give Andrew a ton of credit. He battled and competed well, and he was just a little bit better than Greg today. Overall, this tournament was another good step in the developmental process for Greg as we head into the dual-match season in January. The experience and lessons learned from these last few days in New York will certainly prepare him for a successful campaign as the leader of our team.”
Notre Dame’s spring season begins Jan. 24 with a dual meet against Minnesota. The Irish will be entering their first season in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
