SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. ââ’¬” A two-under-par 69 by senior Blake Barens led the way for the Notre Dame men’s golf team as the Irish stand in 12th place out of 16 teams competing in the Georgia State Maui Jim Invitational at the Mirabel Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
As a team, Notre Dame shot a 288 (+4) in a field led by Kent State (264), Baylor (269) and Kansas (270).
Player of the Day
Barens not only topped the Irish for 18 holes but he also turned in the single-hole performance of the day with his eagle on the 571-yard par-five second hole. His score of 69 matched the lowest of his Irish career.

The Irish will be back on the Mirabel Golf Club course for second round action in the Maui Jim Intercollegiate on Saturday. Notre Dame’s tee times begin at 2:10 p.m. ET and will see the Irish paired with golfers from Hawaii and individuals. Lamb tees off at 10:12 a.m. with golfers from Grand Canyon and Chattanooga.

A native of Framingham, Massachusetts, Torbin graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management. He has previously worked full-time on the athletic communications staffs at Vanderbilt, Florida, Connecticut and UCF.
