NOTRE DAME, Ind. – For the fifth time this season, Irish senior guard Ben Hansbrough (Poplar Bluff, Mo.) has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll as he averaged 26.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists after leading Notre Dame to a 2-0 week with wins over Providence and Seton Hall.
Marshon Brooks of Providence claimed player-of-the-week accolades, while Brandon Young of DePaul earned rookie-of-the-week honors. The four other members of the BIG EAST Honor Roll include Darius Johnson-Odom from Marquette, Dwight Hardy of St. John’s, Augustus Gilchrist of USF and Scoop Jardine of Syracuse.
Against the Friars, a 94-93 victory on the road, Hansbrough netted a career-high 32 points as he connected on 10 of his 13 field goal attempts (including three-for-five from three-point range) in addition to hitting nine-of-11 from the three-throw line. He also dished off four assists in the contest.
In Notre Dame’s 60-48 win over Seton Hall, Hansbrough scored 21 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished off two assists.
Hansbrough has scored in double figures in all but two games this season and topped the 20-point mark on 13 occasions and registered two 30-point performances.
He leads the team in scoring with 18.4 points per game and is averaging 20.6 points in BIG EAST play.
