NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Two Notre Dame men’s tennis freshmen will head north to the Vredevelt Invitational hosted by Western Michigan University this weekend. Brian Bilsey of Belmont, California and Yu Zhang of Jiangxi, China will represent the Irish.
This will be the second weekend of competition for both players as they opened their collegiate careers at home two weeks ago during the Bobby Bayliss Invitational. Bilsey went 2-2 in singles picking up wins against a pair of Big Ten opponents from Wisconsin and Michigan State. Zhang also collected his first collegiate win against a player from Wisconsin. They partnered in doubles for one match and took down the Western Michigan team of Pierce and Honnappa.
At the Vredevelt, each player will play three singles and three doubles matches during the two days of competition. Also participating will be players from Butler, Chicago State, Cleveland State, Michigan State and the host team Western Michigan.
Saturday will have one round of doubles beginning at 10am followed by two rounds of singles. Sunday will start with two rounds of doubles beginning at 10am followed by the last round of singles matches.
