NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Senior quarterback Jarious Jackson was five for six in the air for 73 yards and a touchdowns as the Notre Dame football team concluded spring drills with the 70th playing of the Blue-Gold Game on Saturday.
The Blue team, made primarily of the Irish starters, defeated the Gold team, made up of reserves, by a 49-10 score before a crowd of 21,512 at Notre Dame Stadium. The game consisted of four 12-minute quarters.
Jackson was named the game’s offensive most valuable player, while inside linebacker Anthony Denman, who will be a junior in the fall and also played for Blue, was named the defensive most valuable player after recording six tackles and registering one interception.
The Blue team took quick control of the game as it outscored Gold by a 28-0 count in the first quarter. Fullback Joey Goodspeed scored on a two-yard run with 10:12 left in the first quarter and safety Deke Cooper returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown with 10:01 left.
A 29-yard touchdown run by fullback Tom Lopienski (6:57 left) and a seven-yard TD pass from Jackson to tight end Dan O’Leary (0:39 left) concluded the first period scoring. 
Tailback Tony Fisher, who will be a sophomore in the fall, was the leading rusher in the game with seven carries for 64 yards while junior-to-be Tony Driver had six carries for 63 yards. Goodspeed finished with five carries for 41 yards and Lopienski had four carries for 34 yards plus another touchdown. Fullback Mike McNair was the leading rusher for the Gold with 11 carries for 46 yards.
Quarterback Arnaz Battle was a combined nine for 12 in the air for 182 yards and a touchdowns while Eric Chappell was six for 20. Javin Hunter, David Givens and John Owens each made three receptions.
