Brown Tops American Field In 5K At World Aquatics Championships

Irish men’s swimmers are making waves at home and abroad.

On Wednesday, distance freestyler Josh Brown notched a personal best time in the 5K at the Aquatics World Championships in Doha, Qatar with a time of 53:23.90. Brown finished 24th out of 76 total athletes and was the top American finisher. He has his eyes set on the 2024 Paris Olympics, and Wednesday’s swim was certainly a step in the right direction. A native of Winter Park, Fla., Brown is currently taking the year off from Notre Dame to train.

Brown currently ranks fourth in program history in the 1000 free (9:06.28) and third in the mile (15:04.02). He competed at the 2022 World Junior Open Water Championships and was a member of the 2021-22 USA Swimming Junior National Team. He swam the 10K at both events. Brown is also a 2024 Olympic Trials qualifier in the 400, 800 and 1500 M free.
