Irish Announce Staff Promotions Ahead Of 2026-27 Season

Carroll elevated to associate head coach, while Geriane will stay on as an assistant

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Notre Dame swimming and diving announced two promotions on the staff on Tuesday, as Trevor Carroll will now serve as associate head coach, while Jessica Geriane is now an assistant coach for Peterson Family Head Swimming Coach Mike Norment.

Carroll, a native of South Bend, served as an assistant coach for the Irish for the last four seasons. The local product has helped elevate the program to new heights, including a 10th-place men’s NCAA finish in 2024, the best in program history.

Prior to returning home, Carroll spent four seasons in the same role at Pittsburgh. During his tenure with the Panthers, Pittsburgh swimmers combined to break 28 records, including 22 on the men’s side.

A 2017 graduate of Louisville, Carroll spent his first season after his undergraduate career as a volunteer assistant for his alma mater. While swimming for the Cardinals, Carroll earned nine top-10 individual finishes at ACC Championships with three podium finishes ranging from the 50 to 500 freestyle. He was a 14-time All-American in his final three seasons at Louisville, helping the Cardinals’ relays reach several national finals while earning individual All-America honors as well.

“I don’t think any statement that I make will do any justice to recognize the amazing work that Trevor has done over this past year,” Norment said following the elevation to associate head coach. “Trevor is an absolutely brilliant coach. He is intelligent, organized and talented.  I’m thankful for how he embodies his position.

“Trevor loves Notre Dame and cares about this team. He cares about the coaches and everyone attached to the program. He’s an awesome family man with a beautiful family, and I think that is part of the secret sauce that makes him such an amazing coach. You have to have the passion and knowledge, but you also have to care about people. Incredible coach, even better person. He gets it. I’m just so excited that he’s on our team. GO IRISH!!!!”

Following a storied career as a student-athlete for the Irish, Geriane has joined the swimming and diving program as a full-time assistant coach. She spent the 2025-26 school year as a student assistant coach while earning a master’s degree in digital marketing.

“I am so happy to be giving back to the program that has provided me with so much,” Geriane said. “When Mike came to me at the beginning of the school year and brought up coaching while I was pursuing my M.S., I knew it was something I simply could not turn down.

“I am so thankful for Mike and the staff for mentoring me and welcoming me back with open arms, and I am incredibly grateful that the team has been so patient with me and has allowed me to learn from them over this past year. I am thrilled to continue growing and contributing to the success of the program! Go Irish!!”

Geriane made an immense impact on the program while attending Notre Dame, both in and out of the pool. A 2025 NCAA qualifier, the Aurora, Illinois native is the school record holder in the 200 medley and 200 free relays as well as the 50 backstroke (23.96). She also ranks second in the 50 free and sixth in the 100 back (fifth at the time of graduation).

Additionally, Geriane was a three-time member of the All-ACC Academic Team and a 2024 College Swimming Coaches Association (CSCAA) Scholar All-American. She also earned the 2025 Reaney Award, given to a female swimmer who exemplifies what it means to be a champion in the pool and in the classroom, as a teammate and in life.

“I’m so excited to have Jess join our team,” Norment said after promoting Geriane to assistant status. “Jess was an awesome teammate for Notre Dame and stepped into the role as a student assistant to help out on deck. She did a phenomenal job and immediately made our program better and gave us so much insight. We needed her perspective to know how to support our team in the best way possible.

“Jess cares deeply about this team and the individuals on it. Beyond that, she is one heck of a coach! Jess is a natural, and we were praying that she would accept the position because we love her presence on the pool deck and in the office. She’s just an all-around class act. Welcome to the team, Jess. GO IRISH!!!”

In 2024, Geriane earned her undergraduate degree from Notre Dame in Film, Television and Theater.
