SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Another piece of the 2026-27 roster puzzle for Notre Dame men’s basketball was added on Thursday evening. Glenn & Stacey Murphy Head Coach Micah Shrewsberry signed Rutgers transfer Bryce Dortch. A 6-9 forward out of Somerville, Massachusetts, Dortch arrives in South Bend after two seasons with the Scarlet Knights.
“Bryce is the kind of player we value – tough, physical, & versatile. He’s been coached at a high level throughout his career, and that shows in the way he approaches the game. His experience at Rutgers, combined with his background in strong AAU and high school programs, has helped shape him into a competitor who’s ready to contribute right away,” Coach Shrewsberry explained.
Last season, Dortch played in 31 games, which included three starts, averaging 14.5 minutes. Known for his versatility and defensive presence on the court, Dortch averaged 2.1 points and 3.2 rebounds off the bench, while totaling 21 blocks and 17 steals. In one of his best defensive performances last season, Dortch recorded nine rebounds and five blocks against Penn.
Dortch shot an efficient 61.0 percent from the field. In Big Ten play, he shot slightly higher at 66.7 percent.
As a freshman, he only saw action in 12 games, totaling 77 minutes. His best game was a nine-point, two-rebound, two-block effort in a win over USC.
In high school, Dortch was rated as the fifth-highest player in Massachusetts, where he played at Brimmer & May High. He earned All-NEPSAC honors after averaging 13.2 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.3 steals as a senior.
In addition, Dortch played AAU basketball for Rivals Elite – the preeminent club basketball organization in New England. There, he helped the team achieve a 15-4 record and win the 3SSB Open Championship in Los Angeles.
