EAST LANSING, Mich. – The University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team will send two more players into the singles main draw of the ITA Midwest Championships at Michigan State University. Sophomores Eric Langenkamp (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale H.S.) and Patrick Buchanan (Fullerton, Calif./Servite H.S.) picked up two victories apiece to advance to the main draw.
Langenkamp defeated Nick Kooyers of Valparaiso 6-0, 6-3 in the qualifying round of 32, and topped Bradley’s Marko Marevic 7-5, 6-2 to earn a spot in the main draw. Buchanan beat Todd Wojtkowski of Toledo 7-5, 6-2 and edged out Ball State’s Patrick Thompson 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 to advance.
Irish assistant coach Todd Doebler said of the day’s matches, ” I was really happy to see Eric and Patrick qualify. Last year, they both lost tough matches in the final qualifying round. It was great to see them get over the hump.”
The Irish will return to action tomorrow, as play in the main draw for both singles and doubles begins.
