Farmington Hills, Mich. – Notre Dame hockey forward Calle Ridderwall (Sr., Stockholm, Sweden) is one of 11 CCHA hockey players to be named their team’s 2010-11 Scholar-Athlete of the Year. From this group of players, the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) will name its 2011 Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Thursday, March 17 at the 2011 CCHA Awards, presented by RBC Financial Group at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Mich.

A three-time monogram winner for the Irish, Ridderwall served as one of the team’s alternate captains this season and was a four-year regular at left wing. In the classroom, Ridderwall has a 3.413 grade-point average with a major in Finance in the Mendoza College of Business.
A native of Stockholm, Sweden, he also is one of 10 finalists for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award that is presented annually to student athletes who excel both on and off the ice and has notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
On the ice, Ridderwall is sixth on the team in scoring with 12 goals and eight assists for 20 points. His 12 goals are third overall with four of the goals coming on the power play and one being a game winner. He is second on the team with 102 shots on goal and he has a +8 plus-minus rating.
For his career, Ridderwall has played in 148 career games, scoring 53 goals with 33 assists for 86 points. He has scored 26 power-play goals during his career and ranks sixth on Notre Dame’s all-time power-play goal list. He has scored seven game winners during his career and has two hat tricks to his credit. He led the Irish in goals in both his sophomore and junior years and was the team’s offensive player and the Notre Dame Monogram Club most valuable player following the 2009-10 season.
The faculty representative at each school, in consultation with the head coach, selected the institution’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Each school’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year serves as the school’s nominee for CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Notre Dame has had two CCHA Scholar-Athlete’s of the Year with Jordan Pearce `09 winning the honor in 2009 and Cory McLean `05, the 2005 winner.
Nominees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 through the fall term of the selection year to receive the school’s Scholar-Athlete award. The CCHA award will be selected by the 11 faculty representatives, voting based on a system awarding five points for a first-place vote, three points for a second-place vote and one point for a third-place vote.
