NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Irish senior forward Carleton Scott (San Antonio, Texas) has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the first time this season and second time in his career. He became the third Notre Dame player recognized to the Honor Roll in 2010-11, joining teammates Ben Hansbrough and Tim Abromaitis as honorees this season.
Gilbert Brown of Pittsburgh garnered player-of-the-week accolades while Fuquan Edwin of Seton Hall copped rookie-of-the-week accolades. Also named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll were Jonathan Mitchell of Rutgers, Kris Joseph of Syracuse, Corey Fisher of Villanova and Kevin Jones of West Virginia.
In the Irish’s only action last week following final exams, Scott helped Notre Dame improve to 10-1 on the season, its best start since the 2006-07 campaign, in scoring 20 points, grabbing four rebounds and dishing off a career-high five assists in an 88-62 victory over Stony Brook on Dec. 19 at Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center. The win enabled the Irish to remain unbeaten at home (7-0) this season.
Scott was a perfect 8-for-8 from the field and 4-for-4 from three-point range. His shooting percentage was the best for an Irish player since Torin Francis hit all eight of his field goal attempts against Maryland on Dec. 7, 2002.
Scott’s 20-point performance marked the second straight game (and second time in his career) that he had scored 20-plus points as he extended his double-figure scoring streak to a career-best nine contests.
Currently, Scott is averaging career-bests of 12.5 points and 7.1 rebounds and ranks third and second on the team, respectively, in those categories. Scott is shooting 52.1 percent from the field and leads the team with 20 blocked shots (1.8 per game).
