Alison Silverio 2026-27 Women's Tennis Staff
Head Coach
Alison Silverio, a national champion in her playing days at Georgia Tech and the architect of one of the nation’s top program turnarounds at Oregon, began as the head coach of the University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team in 2018-19.
At Notre Dame, Coach Silverio has achieved a 122-79 (.607) career record. She is fresh off bringing Notre Dame to its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, reaching at least the second round in all for years. In addition, the Irish have been dominant on their home court under Coach Silverio, producing a 49-10 record over the last four seasons (27-4 over the last two years).
Last season, Silverio guided the Irish to a 19-10 overall record, finishing the year ranked No. 31 in the country. The Blue & Gold finished the season strong, winning seven of their last 10. During that run, Notre Dame advanced multiple rounds at the ACC Tournament, knocking off No. 24 Clemson; plus, dramatically defeated No. 27 Arizona in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
There was tremendous individual growth and success as well. Sophomore Bianca Molnar was named Third Team All-ACC Singles & Third Team All-ACC Doubles alongside Bojana Pozder. In fact, Molnar and Pozder became the first ND doubles pairing to tally 20 wins since 2015. They also won the ITA Midwest Regional doubles championship (first since 2008), qualifying for the NCAA Doubles Championships. Molnar also qualified for the NCAA Singles Tournament.
The future was on display as well in 2026 with two freshmen recording at least 20 wins each. Furthermore, both Sophia Holod and Jessica Kovalcik led the Irish in dual singles wins as well with 16 & 15, respectively. Next, Coach Silverio signed the No. 19 recruiting class in the country with three future Irish ready to make an impact in South Bend.
Then there was the classroom success as well. Notre Dame tied Clemson for the most All-ACC Academic Team honorees with seven. Diving deeper, the 2026 ACC All-Academic Team marked the fourth consecutive year in which the Irish have earned seven honorees. In addition, the Fighting Irish were not only named a 2026 ITA All-Academic Team, but also landed five student-athletes on the ITA Scholar-Athlete list.
PREVIOUSLY AT NOTRE DAME
During the 2024-2025 season, the Irish totaled the most wins under head coach Alison Silverio (21-6) and the most ACC wins (9) since joining the conference back in 2013. The 21 wins are the most since the 2012 spring season. Notre Dame once again qualified for the NCAA Tournament, defeating UIC to advance to the second round, where they bowed out to fourth-seeded Ohio State. Individual success was highlighted by Third Team All-ACC selection Akari Matsuno, who went 13-6 in spring dual matches. Lastly, on April 11, 2025, Silverio achieved her 100th career win.
The Irish finished 18-10 overall and 7-6 in ACC action for the 2023-24 season. Notre Dame tallied six wins over ranked opponents, including a 4-2 win over #21 Duke at the Eck Tennis Pavilion. Notre Dame made its way back to Ann Arbor for the NCAA Regionals, defeating Xavier 4-3 and had the third-ranked Wolverines on the ropes before falling 4-2. Julia Andreach and Page Freeman earned All-ACC honors for their performances. Andreach put together one of the best individual seasons in recent history, finishing 20-3 overall, going 12-1 in ACC play, splitting time between the top two flights and earning second team All-ACC honors and ending the season ranked 27th. Andreach and Freeman earned third team All-ACC honors in doubles, finishing 7-4 overall and 6-2 in ACC action. Andreach qualified for the NCAA Individual Tournament, the third-consecutive season Notre Dame has had at least one qualifier in the national tournament.
The program continued its upward trajectory during the 2022-23 season, improving to 16-11 overall and a consistent presence in the ITA national rankings. Silverio and the Irish tallied four wins over ranked opponents, including a 4-3 win over 13th ranked Southern Cal at the ITA Kickoff Challenge in Athens, Ga. The Irish returned to the NCAA Tournament, competing at the Ann Arbor Regional, earning a win over in-state for Ball State before falling to the host, and fifth-ranked Wolverines. Freeman garnered her second All-ACC award, earning third team honors in singles during the season. The senior went 13-9 during the year with six conference wins all at the top flight. Freeman also earned nine doubles wins, five in conference play and qualified for the NCAA Individual Tournament in Orlando. Freeman earned a first round win before falling in the round of 32. Also qualifying for the NCAA tournament was the doubles tandem of Julia Andreach and Carrie Beckman. The two combined to go 16-5 during the regular season, picking up six conference wins competing primarily at the second position. In addition to the success on the court, the team also had eight student-athletes earn Academic All-ACC. Andreach, Beckman, Nibi Ghosh, Freeman, Rylie Hanford, Akari Matsuno, Bojana Pozder and Yashna Yellayi all earned the honors for their performances on the court and in the classroom throughout the season.
2022 saw Silverio’s Irish squad finish 13-12 overall, and went 5-8 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Page Freeman earned Third Team All-ACC honors for her performance throughout the year, finishing 13-10 overall and 6-7 in league play at the top two flights in singles. She also earned a 13-8 doubles record, picking up six conference wins and going 11-8 at the top flight. Julia Andreach and Freeman also earned Academic All-ACC honors for their performances in the classroom. Andreach finished the season 12-8 with seven ACC wins, splitting the top two singles flights with Freeman. She also tallied 10 doubles wins.
In 2021, Silverio’s team earned five ITA Scholar-Athlete awards, three ACC Academic Honor Roll nominations, and an All-ACC Academic Team selection. In 2021, the Irish finished at 11-13.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic ended her second season early with an 11-5 record, Silverio earned a signature win over No. 20 Southern Cal at the College Match Day.
In her first season at Notre Dame, Silverio piloted the Irish to a 13-12 mark while mentoring junior Zoe Spence and sophomore Cameron Corse to All-ACC selections. Notre Dame spent a few weeks in the ITA team rankings, while reaching the second round of the ACC Championship.
Zoe Spence and Cameron Corse were All-ACC selections. Spence went 17-13 in singles action, winning four matches over ranked foes and knocking-off a pair of top-10 opponents. Corse was 23-6 with a 10-4 record in ACC play. She won six straight matches to end the season. As a doubles team, Corse and Spence went 12-7 on the year, including a 4-3 mark in ACC play.
At Oregon
Her debut season saw Oregon among the ITA team rankings for the longest stretch since 2009, while she inked a top-15 recruiting class as her first signing class in Eugene. Season two saw the Ducks go 11-11 while starting league play 3-0, the best start in Pac-12 action since 2004.
In her third season at Oregon, Silverio’s Ducks posted their best overall record (14-11) in 11 years and top conference mark (6-4) in 13 seasons. After reaching the Pac-12 semifinals via an upset of UCLA, the Ducks earned their first NCAA tournament bid in a decade.
The Ducks topped that overall win total in 2018, going 16-10 and 5-5 in Pac-12 play. Oregon returned to the NCAA tournament, defeating No. 38 Tennessee in the first round before falling to third-ranked Duke. It was Oregon’s first NCAA tournament win in 14 years and its highest-ever national ranking of No. 17 came along the way. In addition, Alyssa Tobita qualified for the NCAA Singles Championship, the first Duck to do so since 2006.
As An Assistant
Silverio’s head coaching debut at Oregon followed assistant coaching stints in the ACC at Georgia Tech, her alma mater, and NC State. As an assistant at Georgia Tech, Silverio helped assemble the nation’s top-ranked recruiting class in 2012, along with the No. 6 signing class in 2013. The 2013 season also saw her help guide the nation’s top-ranked doubles team, which won the ITA National Indoor Doubles Championship and the ITA Regional Doubles title, while capping back-to-back NCAA Sweet 16 appearances for the Yellow Jackets.
She spent three seasons in Raleigh, North Carolina, helping NC State earn NCAA tournament bids in 2008 and 2010 and was instrumental in the Wolfpack signing a top-25 recruiting class in 2010, then the highest-ranked class in program history.
As A Player
As a player at Georgia Tech, Silverio helped lead the Yellow Jackets to the 2007 NCAA title. She clinched the national championship with a win at two singles, garnering NCAA tournament MVP honors. She also helped Tech to ACC Championships from 2005-07, earning ACC All-Tournament Team honors twice and ACC Tournament MVP honors in 2005. As a senior, the Yellow Jackets captured the ITA National Indoor title for the first time in school history.
Silverio departed Georgia Tech as the program’s all-time leader in doubles wins (98), second in singles wins (107) and fourth in singles winning percentage (.711).
The Louisville, Ohio, native was a four-time selection to both the ACC Honor Roll and ACC All-Academic Team while winning the ITA Scholar-Athlete Award in 2005 and 2007. As a senior, Silverio won the ITA Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship & Leadership Award, the Cissie Leary Award for Sportsmanship and an ACC Postgraduate Scholarship.
