Bio

Max Bertman joined the Sports Medicine staff in 2017, currently providing medical care to the Women’s Rowing team after working with the Women’s Soccer team.

Previously, Max was a part of the Bruin’s staff at UCLA.  In his 5 years in Los Angeles he provided medical services for a variety of sports including Women’s Soccer during their 2013 National Championship year, Women’s Tennis (2014 National Runner Up), Women’s Water Polo (2017 National Runner Up) and Track and Field. Prior to UCLA Max was an Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Idaho working with Men’s Basketball. He spent six years as Head Athletic Trainer at College of DuPage near Chicago while providing healthcare to Football, Men’s and Women’s Swimming/Diving and Baseball. Max began his career at Northern Illinois University working with the Football and Wrestling teams.

Max attended Mercy College of Health Sciences studying Advanced Paramedics before graduating from Graceland University in 2001 with a Bachelors of Arts in Athletic Training. He finished his Master’s Degree in Sport Law from Northern Illinois University in 2005.

Max has served on the Illinois Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Directors, California Athletic Trainers Association’s Legislative Action Team, and the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Committee on Professional Ethics. He served on the Soccer Athletic Trainers’ Society Executive Committee for 5 years.

Max’s certifications include: Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers, National Academy of Sports Medicine- Performance Enhancement Specialist, National Academy of Sports Medicine- Corrective Exercises Specialist, Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner +, Graston Technique Approved, Functional Movement Screen and Y-Balance Certified, Selective Functional Movement Assessment Certified, Impact Trained Athletic Trainer, and holds a FIFA Diploma in Football (Soccer) Medicine.

Max is married to his wife, Marie. They have twin daughters, Isla and Olivia, and a younger daughter, Alexandra. They also have two pups named Piper and Knuckles. Max enjoys movies, biking, soccer, volleyball, traveling and Legos.
