Davie Finalist For Coaching Honor

Nov. 21, 2000

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame football coach Bob Davie has been named one of three finalists for the Football News 2000 National Coach of the Year Award.

Joining Davie on the list of finalists are Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops and South Carolina coach Lou Holtz.

Davie has brought the Irish from a 5-7 record in ’99 to an 8-2 record and number-10 national ranking (USA Today poll) heading into Notre Dame’s 2000 regular-season finale Saturday at USC. If the Irish win they would finish with seven straight victories to cap the regular season, the best Notre Dame regular-season-ending streak since the ’88 team went 12-0 and won the national championship.

The announcement of the winner will be made on Wednesday, Dec. 6. The winner will be honored on Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at the National Athletic Awards ceremony at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. Televised nationally by Fox Sports Net, the event will be sponsored by the Dodge Division of DaimlerChrysler.
