NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The quartet of Kelly Ryan, Samantha Maxwell, Kim Holden and Amy Prestinario was the highlight for the Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving team Friday evening to close the first session of the Shamrock Invitational. The tandem ended the night by winning the 400 medley relay with a 3:43.77 showing, a time that was just under six one-hundredths of a second away from an NCAA B-cut.
Jenny Chiang led the Irish off the high board as she registered another Irish win on the night. Chiang totaled 307.55 points at the 3-meter distance. Fellow Irish diver Heidi Grossman took home the silver in the event by collecting 305.95 points.
After the first of three sessions the Irish lead Denver (82-28) and Iowa (77-32). Notre Dame is tied with Ohio State (53.5-53.5) and trails Northwestern (72.5-37.5).
The Shamrock Invitational will conclude Saturday with the second session of the meet slated for a 10:00 a.m. (ET) start. The final session is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.

200 Free Relay: The foursome of Ryan, Lauren Parisi, Lauren Scott and Prestinario finished in a tie for second with a 1:34.66 performance … Northwestern won the event in 1:34.26.
500 Free: Lauren Sylvester led the Irish with her seventh-place finish (5:00.63) … Gracie Fredlake and Jaime Malandra rounded out the Irish effort with times of 5:01.89 and 5:04.11, respectively … Sam Cheverton of Ohio State took home the gold with an NCAA B-cut 4:51.70.
200 Individual Medley: Scott and Prestinario finished eighth and ninth, respectively, touching the pad at 2:06.69 and 2:06.83 … Maxwell finished just behind her teammates with a 2:07.13 showing … Ohio State’s Alex Norris was victorious with a 2:04.66
50 Free: Scott sprinted to a 23.96, finishing in fourth place … Prestinario touched the pad in eighth place (24.24) … Megan Detro claimed first with a 23.05 read-out for Ohio State.
3-meter Diving: Chiang and Grossman went 1-2 in the event with 307.55 and 306.95 points, respectively.
400 Medley Relay: Ryan, Maxwell and Prestinario teamed up with Holden to record the gold in a blistering 3:43.77, just off a B-cut time.
