Two incoming University of Notre Dame men’s basketball freshmen – Prentiss Hubb and Robby Carmody – will take part in the 45th Annual Capital Classic at Catholic University on Friday, April 27, 2018. The oldest high school all-star game in the country and the precursor to the McDonald’s and Jordan Brand games, participation in the Captial Classic is a Notre Dame basketball tradition.
Dating back to the first Capital Classic in 1974 with Donald Williams, Notre Dame has seen a future member of the roster participate 18 of 45 years. Legendary Irish players such as Tracy Jackson, John Paxson, David Rivers, Ryan Humphrey, Tory Murphy, Kyle McAlarney and Jerian Grant all participated in the Capital Classic.
The all-star game features a unique roster make up, which traditionally features the ‘Captial’ team (made up of players from the talent-rich Washington, D.C. area) against the ‘United States’ squad put together from players from across the rest of the country.
For the 2018 game, Carmody will be on the ‘United States’ team while Hubb is a member of the ‘Capital’ group. Hubb missed his senior season with a knee injury and will not participate in the game – in similar fashion to graduating senior Martinas Geben who missed the game in 2014.
On the current Irish roster, Rex Pflueger (2015), T.J. Gibbs (2016) and D.J. Harvey (2017) all played in the Capital Classic.
The game will be played at 8 p.m. ET at the DuFour Center at Catholic University. Tickets are $10 for students, $15 for adults with some limited VIP tickets available as well.
