SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Bobby Bayliss Hidden Dual tournament wrapped up Sunday afternoon inside the Eck Tennis Pavilion due to the rain. After three days of competition against some top competition in the country, the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish men’s tennis team walked away with thirteen wins.
Sebastian Dominko, a freshman from Maribor, Slovenia, competing in his first-ever collegiate tournament made an immediate impact in a Notre Dame uniform. He went 3-0 in singles play and took out two top-20 ranked players in the country without dropping a set. On Friday, he won his first collegiate singles match against #10 ranked Alex Kotzen of Columbia 6-4, 6-4. He followed up on Saturday with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Enzo Aguiard of Alabama before taking out #17 ranked Ondrej Styler of Michigan 6-3, 6-2 to end the weekend.
Two Irish doubles teams won two of their three matches this weekend. Senior Matthew Halpin paired with freshman Evan Lee to pick up wins over Alabama and Michigan at the #2 doubles slot. Senior Connor Fu partnered with sophomore Yu Zhang to get their two wins at the #3 position against Columbia on day one and then Michigan on the final day.
Sophomore Jameson Corsillo picked up an opening day win against Alex Zederebauer of Michigan in straight sets and tallied another win against his teammate Evan Lee in a three set battle on day two. He concluded the weekend with a close loss in a tightly contested three setter to Patorn Hanchaikul of Michigan.
Other singles winners on the weekend included Brian Bilsey and Zhang while the team of Bilsey and Noah Becker also picked up a doubles win.
