DORADO, Puerto Rico – Due to heavy rain in the area on both Monday and Tuesday, the second and third rounds of the Dorado Beach Classic have been officially called off. Thus, the event will be counted as a one-round tournament.
“This team is playing some great golf and unfortunately we weren’t able to show it this week with two rounds being cancelled,” Notre Dame head coach John Handrigan said. “However, we can’t control the weather, but we can control how we play next week. We will be ready to compete.”
The top-10 ranked Notre Dame men’s golf squad started Sunday’s opening round hot out of the gate, shooting into first place after the opening six holes. However, the Irish hit a few bumps down the stretch to finish in a tie for ninth place with a 290 (+2).
Individually, Taichi Kho recorded the best Irish showing, finishing in 15th place after a first round 70 (-2). Davis Lamb (-1), Davis Chatfield (E) and Patrick Kelly (E) also finished at even or under-par.
Up next, the Irish will regroup and head to Hilton Head, South Carolina, for the Colleton River Collegiate, beginning on March 2.
