BLUFFTON, S.C. – The No. 12 Notre Dame men’s golf team nearly got both opening rounds of the Colleton River Collegiate in the books when darkness suspended play on Monday. The Irish had 1-3 holes left in the second round and currently sit in third place at three-over par. Iowa State sits next in second at four-under, while Georgia Southern is atop the standings at 10-under.
Notre Dame boasts three golfers in the top-10 heading into Tuesday. John Felitto (competing as an individual) is tied for third place at three-under, two strokes back from the overall leader. Felitto has 21 holes remaining in his tournament.
Both Hunter Ostrom and Taichi Kho are tied for ninth place at one-under. Ostrom shot a 69 followed by a 74. Kho carded a 69 and has two holes remaining in his second round where he sits with a 65.
ROUND ONE
Speaking of Ostrom and Kho, each posted strong opening rounds for the Irish with a 69, three-under par. Kho fired off three birdies in a four-hole stretch on the back-nine, and finished his round with a birdie on the par-five second. Meanwhile, Ostrom recorded a clean sheet on the front-nine with three birdies and just one bogey on the back-half.
Davis Lamb also counted a score with his 73. Lamb shot even on the front-nine and one-over on the back. In addition, Palmer Jackson and Andrew O’Leary each carded a 77, five-over par.
Felitto only tallied one bogey in his opening round 70 and countered with birdies on holes two, nine and 16.
ROUND TWO
Jackson rebounded nicely in the second round, where he led the Irish with a 71. The freshman notched three birdies to jump 31 spots in the standings into 32nd.
O’Leary improved upon his first round as well, shooting two-under on the front before finishing with a 72 for the round.
Ostrom carded a 74 and Lamb checked into the clubhouse with a 75.
Tuesday’s final round is slated to begin at 8 a.m. ET.
