NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The holiday season will be much brighter for numerous families around Michiana, thanks to the generosity of hundreds of people who contributed to the first-ever Fighting Irish Women’s Basketball “Dish for the Holidays” food drive, to benefit the Food Bank of Northern Indiana.
Head coach Muffet McGraw and her staff, along with all 11 Irish players, braved the cold temperatures on Thursday morning to man numerous collection stations around the Notre Dame campus. When the two-hour food drive concluded, eight full boxes of non-perishable food and sundries (close to 4,000 pounds) were packed on to a truck and headed to the Food Bank. In addition, several passers-by offered monetary donations to the effort, with $646 collected to complement the food drive.
“We are just so grateful for the support and enthusiasm shown by the people of Michiana to come out and donate whatever they can for this event,” McGraw said. “It’s the responsibility of each of us as citizens here in Michiana to do all we can to make a difference and improve the lives of our community. I hope we were able to do just a little bit to help that process along and make the holidays more enjoyable for our friends and neighbors.”
