NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its postseason awards Friday afternoon and the Irish had two names represented. Senior captain Sammi Fisher earned a spot on the second team while sophomore forward Kiki Van Zanten was placed on the third team.
“I’m very proud of these two players,” said head coach Nate Norman. “Kiki was so fun to watch this fall and scored some great goals. Her third goal against Miami and first against Syracuse were truly special finishes. Sammi had a great all around fall season. She was very dynamic in the attack, helped us keep the ball in tight areas, and showed a tireless work ethic defensively.”
Fisher earns her third career ACC postseason award after being named to the third team in 2019 and the All-Freshman team in 2017. She started all nine games for the Irish in the fall season, shifting between midfield and the forward. She bagged a brace in the 6-0 win over Miami, the most goals the Irish have scored in a conference game since joining the ACC in 2013.
Fisher finished the season with three goals, one assist and seven points while playing 657 minutes over the nine game. She ranked second on the team in goals and points while being one of seven players to start all nine games in the fall.
Van Zanten collected her first career ACC award and she was a super sub for the Irish this season. Kiki played in all nine games and made a major impact off the bench for the Irish. She led the team with six goals and 12 points in 274 minutes of action.
In the win over Miami, Van Zanten tallied her first career hat trick and the first Irish hat trick since the 2019 when Fisher had one against the Hurricanes. Van Zanten is the only player in the ACC to record a hat trick this season and her six points against the Hurricanes was a conference-best in a game this season. Van Zanten also tallied her second career brace in the 2-0 home win over Syracuse.
