University of Notre Dame senior men’s lacrosse players Edwin Glazener, Conor Kelly, Matt Kavanagh and Matt Landis have been selected as captains for the 2016 University of Notre Dame men’s lacrosse squad.

Glazener, a 6-4, 215-pound defenseman from La Jolla, California (The Bishop’s School), heads into his second full season as an Irish regular. He opened on defense in all 15 games in 2015 on Notre Dame’s regular-season Atlantic Coast Conference championship squad, while accounting for 18 ground balls and causing 13 turnovers.

Glazener is enrolled in the College of Arts and Letters with a double major in economics and pre-health. He also earned a spot on the ACC All-Academic Team in 2015.

Kavanagh, a 5-8, 170-pound attack from Rockville Centre, New York (Chaminade/Hotchkiss), ranks as one of the top scorers in Notre Dame lacrosse history. Here are some of his accomplishments:

— 2015 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association first-team All-American

— 2015 and 2014 first-team all-Atlantic Coast Conference selection

— 2015 Tewaaraton Award finalist (one of five)

— His 175 career points (101 goals, 74 assists) rank fifth in Notre Dame history heading into 2016 season

— Led Notre Dame in scoring in 2015 (27 goals, 25 assists) and 2014 (Notre Dame season-record 75 points on 42 goals and season-record 33 assists) and led Irish in goals (32) and assists (16) in 2014

— First-round pick (fifth overall selection) in 2016 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft by Denver Outlaws

Kavanagh is a film, television and theatre major in College of Arts and Letters

Kelly, a 6-0, 178-pound goaltender from St. Davids, Pennsylvania (Haverford School), earned his degree from the Mendoza College of Business as a finance major and currently is enrolled in the one-year MBA program at Notre Dame.

He played in six games in 2015, starting the opener against Georgetown, making 15 saves overall and producing a 10.92 goals-against mark. He started 11 times in 2014, making 112 saves to go with a 10.28 goals-against average and .505 save percentage. In 2014 he was named to both the NCAA and ACC all-tournament teams.

The 6-2, 195-pound Landis is a defenseman from Pelham, New York (Pelham Memorial High School), and a finance major in the Mendoza College of Business. He received the William C. Schmeisser Award from the USILA as the outstanding defensive player in Division I as a junior in 2015. He was a 2015 USILA first-team All-American, the 2015 ACC Defensive Player of the Year and a 2015 first-team all-ACC selection. He recently received an honorary postgraduate scholarship from the ACC.

Landis helped hold Albany star Lyle Thompson to a single goal and four assists in a 14-10 Notre Dame NCAA Championship quarterfinal win over the Great Danes in 2015. He also was a 2015 ACC All-Academic Men’s Lacrosse Team selection.

Landis heads into his third season as a starter on defense for Notre Dame in 2016. Last month he was a first-round pick (third overall selection and first defenseman picked) in the 2016 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft by the Florida Launch.

Glazener, Kelly and Landis all are former BIG EAST Conference Academic All-Stars.
