July 14, 1999

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Due to weather-related conditions, the probable opening date of the Warren Golf Course has been shifted to later in the fall of 1999. As the summer progresses, definitive dates will be announced for the course’s grand opening and subsequent open play.

A very short spring season-combined with intermittent hot and humid weather and storms that produced large quantities of rain in short periods of time-have all contributed to the delay. Construction has been slowed due to addressing washout areas and care of the existing seeds. The course and practice range facility have all been seeded as of early July and these areas are attended to daily. The bunkers are in the process of being edged and filled and the final drainage issues are being completed.

Given good growing weather, the course is on pace to be ready for play in early October.

WARREN GOLF COURSE MANAGER BRIAN GODFREY: “The various stages involved with preparing a golf course for its opening make for a delicate process that cannot be rushed. We have encountered some difficulties with the weather this summer and have to remain focused on ensuring the course’s long-term stability. There is growing excitement about the course’s opening and we are confident that the final product will result in the Warren Golf Course being one of the nation’s top college campus-based facilities.”
