THREE NOTES TO KNOW

OVERVIEW

— The Irish open the 2015-16 season with a pair of exhibition games this weekend, including at home on Friday, Oct. 9 versus the University of Guelph Gryphons and then on the road against the U.S. National U-18 Development Team on Sunday, Oct. 11.
— This season will mark Notre Dame’s 48th year of varsity hockey, and the 11th under the guidance of Head Coach Jeff Jackson.

EXHIBITION CONNECTIONS
— Head Coach Jeff Jackson has ties with both of this weekend’s opponents.
— Jackson was the Head Coach of the Guelph Storm (OHL) from 2000 – 2003, which also play in Guelph, Ontario, where the University of Guelph is located.
— The Gryphons’ head coach is Shawn Camp, who was an assistant on Jackson’s Guelph Storm staff.
— Jackson was also the first head coach of the USNTDP from 1996-2000 and the mastermind behind the U.S. National Development Program (he laid out the plan for what would become the U.S. National while interviewing with USA Hockey).
— In addition to Jackson, 35 Notre Dame hockey players have come through the U.S. National Team Development Program, including current players Andy Ryan, Thomas DiPauli, Dawson Cook, Anders Bjork and Joe Wegwerth.

YOUNG GUNS
— According to research conducted by College Hockey Inc. (@Collegehockey), entering the 2015-16 season, the Notre Dame roster is the fifth-youngest in the country (based on Oct. 1, 2015).
— The top-five youngest teams entering the season include Boston College (20 years, 169 days), Boston University (20 years, 179 days), Michigan (20 years, 235 days), Wisconsin (20 years, 320 days) and Notre Dame (20 years, 333 days).
— Notre Dame’s roster includes 15 underclassmen (nine sophomores and six freshmen).
