SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Notre Dame Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field assistant coach Emily Hosker-Thornhill is set to coach at the World Athletics Cross Country Championships on January 10, 2026 in Tallahassee, Florida.
Hosker-Thornhill will serve as the team coach for the U20 women for Great Britain at the event. She competed twice for team Great Britain at the World Athletics Cross Country Championships and posted a personal-best finish of 49th in 2019 when the event took place in Aarhus, Denmark. It is the first time she will be part of the event as a coach.
“I am incredibly grateful to British Athletics for the opportunity and for the trust they’ve placed in me in this role,” said Hosker-Thornhill. “I’m also very thankful for the support of Notre Dame throughout this process. Having experienced this championship as an athlete, it’s incredibly special to return as a coach. I’m really excited to be back at the meet and working with such a talented U20 group.”
The 2026 event is the 46th edition of the World Cross Country Championships and features more than 500 athletes representing more than 65 countries from around the world. The championships are made up of five events – the senior men’s and women’s races, the men’s and women’s U20 races and the mixed relay. The women’s U20 race is a 6km event and is scheduled to begin at 10:20 a.m. ET at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee. It is the first time in over 30 years that the event will take place in the United States.
Each men’s and women’s race will feature up to six athletes from each team. The top four athletes on each team contribute to the team score, and the lowest aggregate of points will determine the winner for each event.
