Irish sent four team members to compete in the Dick Vitale Clay Court Invitational in Lakewood Ranch, FL November 1-3. All four compete in singles and doubles play.
In doubles play:
Axel Nefve and William Howells teamed up to defeat Dabek/Durham of Navy 8-4 on Friday morning. In the quarterfinals on Friday evening, they defeated Beaty/Brown of Michigan 8-7(4) to advance. Irish were down 4-1 in the tiebreaker and won 6 straight points to win the match. Axel Nefve and William Howells will play in the semifinals Saturday morning at 9 a.m. ET against Berdusco/Andrade of Florida.
Conor Somers and Johnathan Small lost their doubles match against Cacciatore/Goodger of Florida 8-1 on Friday morning.
In singles play:
Axel Nefve lost his first match 4-6, 6-2, 1-0(6) against Ivan Yatsuk from USF. He bounced back to beat Grey Cacciatore from Florida 6-1, 6-4. He plays Richard Thongoana of Florida State Saturday morning at 9 a.m. ET in the consolation draw.
William Howells won his first match over Rana-Roop Singh Bhular of Florida State 6-3, 6-3. He then lost to Duke player, Garrett Johns, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0(6).
Johnathan Small lost to Sergio Hernandez Ramirez of Louisville 6-2, 6-3. Then, he lost to Michael Heller of Duke 6-2, 6-1.
Conor Somers lost to Edu Guell of Duke 6-0, 6-2. Then he lost to Jack Dabek of Navy 6-3, 6-2.
Play will continue on Saturday morning in Florida.
