RALEIGH, N.C. – Prentiss Hubb, John Mooney and T.J. Gibbs combined to score 52 of Notre Dame’s 68 total points, but the Fighting Irish fell to the NC State Wolf Pack 73-68 on the road Wednesday.
Hubb led the Fighting Irish with 24 points and two steals. Mooney added a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds and Gibbs chipped in as well with 14 points, six assists and two steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind 10-7, Notre Dame went on a 7-0 run with 16:16 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Dane Goodwin, to take a 14-10 lead. The Fighting Irish then added one point to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 39-34 advantage. Notre Dame got out and ran in the period, scoring eight points on the break.
Notre Dame started tacking on points in the second half almost immediately, going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Hubb’s layup, to grow the lead to 45-34 with 18:22 to go in the contest. NC State then asserted control, outscoring the Fighting Irish 39-23 the rest of the way to hand Notre Dame the 73-68 loss.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Hubb poured in a career-high 24 points on Wednesday evening, shooting 9-of-14 from the floor. The sophomore knocked down four shots from beyond the arc and went 2-for-2 at the free throw line. Hubb also added two rebounds and two assists.
NOTES
- Hubb finished in double figures in the scoring column for the eighth time this season and 19th time in his career.
- Hubb has now scored 20 or more points in four games this season, including each of his last two outings.
- Mooney recorded his 12th double-double in just 14 games that he has played in this season. The senior has now recorded a double-double in nine straight games.
- Gibbs scored 10 or more points for the 12th time this season and 68th time in his career.
- With two blocks, Durham has recorded multiple blocks in 12 of 15 games this season.
