Irish And Buckeyes Ready For Top-Five Matchup On Saturday

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — No. 2/2 Notre Dame hosts undefeated No. 4/4 Ohio State on Saturday afternoon at Arlotta Stadium. The game will mark Notre Dame’s fourth straight outing against a ranked opponent. The game will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra/ESPN3 at 2 p.m.

The Ohio State Series

  • Saturday will be the 42nd meeting all time between Notre Dame and Ohio State. The Irish lead the all-time series with the Buckeyes, holding a 32-9 advantage in the matchup.

  • The last installment between the two sides came last season at Ohio State. The Irish prevailed in a 9-8 victory.

  • The Irish have won each of the last 14 matchups with Ohio State, including the 9-0 shutout in the last meeting at Arlotta Stadium on March 21, 2015, which is the last time the Irish held an opponent scoreless in a game.

  • Notre Dame holds a 16-3 edge over the Buckeyes in the series when playing at Notre Dame.

Irish Vs. Top Five Teams

  • Notre Dame is 10-9 against teams ranked in the top five in the USILA Coaches Poll over the previous five seasons.

  • The Irish are 1-1 this season against top five teams, as the program defeated No. 2/1 Maryland 5-4 and fell at No. 4/5 Denver 11-10.

Notre Dame Vs. The Big Ten

  • Saturday’s game against Ohio State will be the third matchup against a program from the Big Ten this season. Notre Dame won the previous two matchups, defeating Michigan by a final of 16-5 and knocking off top-ranked Maryland in a 5-4 thriller.

  • Ohio State brings an undefeated record of 9-0 to Notre Dame. Both Michigan (4-0) and Maryland (4-0) were undefeated before playing the Irish.

  • Since the Big Ten officially added the sport of men’s lacrosse for the 2015 season the Irish are 6-0 against members of the conference.

The Motor City Hit Man

  • Sergio Perkovic received the nickname the Motor City Hit Man from former ESPN announcer Eamon McAnaney.

  • The midfielder is one of 20 men’s lacrosse players selected as a Senior CLASS Award candidate.

  • Perkovic has been named an Honorary ACC Postgraduate Scholarship recipient and is the only men’s lacrosse player in the league to earn the accolade.

  • Perkovic notched his first hat trick of the season against Virginia to earn ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

  • The senior midfielder from Michigan currently has 95 career goals, which ranks ninth in program history and are the most by any midfielder in Irish history.

Last Time Out

  • The Irish won an overtime thriller at Virginia, as Ryder Garnsey scored the game-winning goal to give Notre Dame the win in its conference opener at Virgnia by a final score of 11-10.

  • Ryder Garnsey led the team with four points off of one goal and three assists.

  • Mikey Wynne and Sergio Perkovic each posted hat tricks in the win, scoring three goals apiece.

  • The Irish are now 4-0 in ACC openers since joining the league in 2014.
