GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Notre Dame men’s golf team capped its 2014 fall season Sunday during the final round of the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate, hosted by the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, at the Grandover Resort East Course. The Irish were unable to sustain momentum built from a 10-shot improvement over the tournament’s first 36 holes Saturday, sliding into a 13th place finish at 903 (305-295-303).

Freshman Thomas Steve birdied a pair of par 5s during his final round to post the top Notre Dame result of the weekend, tying for 27th place at seven-over-par 223 (72-77-74). It was Steve’s second top individual placement in the Irish starting lineup in his sixth and final start of the fall campaign, which also included three top 25 finishes.

Sophomore Matthew Rushton strung together his best round of the weekend, recording 16 pars in an even par 72 on Sunday. Rushton gained 16 spots on the final tournament leaderboard to share 51st place (80-76-72=228).

Senior Patrick Grahek tied for 62nd place with a 54-hole total of 231 (77-74-80=231), with classmate Tyler Wingo one stroke behind in a share of 64th place (76-70-86=232). Sophomore Liam Cox rounded out the Notre Dame lineup in 67th place (81-75-77=233).

North Carolina won the team draw of the tournament by 12 shots, firing a seven-under-par 281 in the final round to post the top score of 849 (288-280-281). Virginia Tech settled for runner-up honors at 861 (286-285-290) as the only other team in the field to break par for the weekend. Chattanooga (298-286-288) placed third with a team total of 872, followed by South Alabama in fourth place at 876 (295-295-286) and Mercer in fifth place (293-292-293) at 878.

Notre Dame kicks off its 2015 spring season on Feb. 23-24, traveling to the Jones Invitational at the Vallencia Country Club in Los Angeles, California.
