Irish Conclude Successful Notre Dame Invitational

Notre Dame, Ind – The University of Notre Dame men’s and women’s track and field teams concluded the Notre Dame Invitational Saturday inside the Loftus Sports Center in Notre Dame, Ind. Sophomore Rebecca Tracy (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) clocked the second-best mile time in the nation in 4:42.14.

The men’s and women’s teams had a bountiful meet with 14 total first-place finishes. In addition to Tracy, sophomore Lauren Leniart (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) claimed the crown in the long jump (5.47m). Freshman Kelly Burke (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) placed first in the triple jump, leaping 11.37m and senior Rudy Atang (Houston, Texas/St. Pius X) rounded out the women’s victories with a shot put throw of 14.94m.

The men added 10 first-place finishes to the final results for the Irish. Freshman Jarrod Buchanon (South Bend, Ind./Clay) ran 8.42 to finish first in the 60-meter hurdles. Freshman Patrick Feeney (Indianapolis, Ind./New Palestine) added to the sprint victories, capturing the 400-meter dash in 48.17 and sophomore Brendan Dougherty (Sioux City, Iowa/Bishop Heelan Catholic) won the 500-meter dash in 1:05.31.

2010 Indoor All-American Jack Howard (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) finished first in the 800 meters in 1:52.64. Sophomore Jeremy Rae (Fort Erie, Ontario/Lakeshore Catholic) stopped the clock at 2:22.53 to capture the crown in the 1,000 meters. Senior Ryan Gamboa (Upland, Calif./Upland) crossed the line in 4:08.98 to place first in the mile.

Among the men’s field events, junior Patrick Glass (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) jumped 13.71m in the triple jump to finish first, while junior Kevin Schipper (Leo, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) earned a victory (5.10m) in the pole vault. Senior Greg Davis (Peachtree, Ga./Starr’s Mill) threw 17.68m to capture first place in the weight throw.

The men’s 1,600-meter relay rounded out the victories for the Irish, finishing in 3:18.92. The Irish return to action Fri., Jan. 28 and Sat., Jan 29 at the Indiana Relays in Bloomington, Ind. and Wisconsin Multi-Event in Madison, Wis.

Notre Dame Women’s Results

60-Meter Hurdles – Ann Marie Kelly finished eighth in 9.86.

1,000 Meters – McKinzie Schulz was the fourth-place finisher in 2:55.56, followed by Abby Higgins in fifth place (2:57.59) and Angela Ryck in sixth place (2:57.90). Gena Bleyer finished in 11th in 3:05.74.

60-Meter Dash – Aijah Urssery finished in third place in 7.88. Jessie Christian and Kali Watkins placed seventh (8.16) and eighth (8.21).

500-Meter Dash – Natalie Johnson was the second-place finisher in 1:15.38, followed by Tiffany Tibbot in fourth place (1:19.66).

Mile Run – Rebecca Tracy finished first in 4:42.14. Meg Ryan was the sixth-place finisher in 4:59.55, followed by Marissa Treece and Molly Hirt in seventh place (5:05.50) and eighth place (5:11.26), in that order. Molly Hirt concluded the race in eighth place (5:11.26), while Ryan Russ finished 13th (5:32.72).

400-Meter Dash – Michelle Brown was the third-place finisher (56.40), followed by Jaclyn Winkel in sixth place (58.28) and Sasha Blanchard in 11th (58.96).

800-Meter Run – Allison Schroeder finished in second place in 2:17.47, while Kelly Langhans finished third in 2:18.33. Elizabeth Andrusziewicz finished in fifth place in 23.89.

200-Meter Dash – Aijah Urssery finished in fourth place (25.54), followed by Tiffany Tibbot in 12th (27.19) and Kali Watkins in 13th (27.85).

3,000-Meter Run – Rachel Velarde finished in second place (9:46.99), followed by Alexa Aragon in third place in 9:54.67. Erica Watson finished in fifth place in 10:1067, while Kelly Curran finished sixth in 10:12.22 and Susanna Sullivan finished eighth (10:27.18).

1,600-Meter Relay – Notre Dame “A” (Johnson, Schulz, Langhans, Higgins) finished second in 3:54.35. Notre Dame “C” (Winkel, Tibbot, Kelly, Brown) finished fifth in 3:58.32 and Notre Dame “B” (Schroeder, Tracy, Ryck, Andrusziewicz) finished eighth (4:09.82).

Long Jump – Lauren Leniart was the first-place finisher (5.74m), followed by Jasmine Williams in second place (5.41m).

Triple Jump – Kelly Burke was the first-place finisher (11.37m), followed by Jasmine Williams in second place (11.16m) and Jessie Christian in third place (10.69m). Lauren Leniart finished in fifth place (10.40m).

High Jump – Kendra Jennings was the second-place finisher (1.65m).

Pole Vault – Kelly Burke finished in third place (3.55m). Chrissy Finkel and Kathryn Barousse finished in fifth place (3.40m) and sixth place (3.10m).

Weight Throw – Mason Bashaw finished in third place (15.75m), followed by Madeline Casanova in fifth place (14.88m) and Vivien Devaney in eighth place (13.97m). Emily Kujawski finished 12th (12.47m).

Shot Put – Rudy Atang was the first-place finisher (14.94m), followed by Madeline Casanova in third place (12.76m) and Emily Kujawski in fifth place (12.31m). Vivien Devaney finished ninth (11.32m).

Notre Dame Men’s Results

60-Meter Hurdles – Jarrod Buchanon was the first-place finisher in 8.42, followed by Justin Schneider in second place in 8.62. Dean Odegard and Alex Bavis tied for third place (9.67).

1,000-Meter Run – Jeremy Rae was the first-place finisher in 2:22.53, followed by Jordan Carlson in second place (2:23.92) and Kevin Labus in 2:25.01. J.P. Malette and Johnathan Shawel finished in fourth place (2:26.43) and fifth place (2:27.08).

60-Meter Dash – Edward Hitchler finished in third place in 7.07. Jarrod Buchanon and Sean Lindbloom finished in fourth place (7.19) and fifth place (7.29).

500-Meter Dash – Brendan Dougherty was the first-place finisher in 1:05.31, followed by Princely Muro in third place (1:06.99).

Mile Run – Ryan Gamboa finished in first place (4.08.98), followed by Spencer Carter in fifth place (4:10.68) and Kelly Lynch in seventh place (4:12.43). Dan Jackson, Joe Miller and Paul Springer finished in ninth (4:14.06), 10th (4:15.21) and 11th (4:16.33). Walter Schafer finished 12th (4:19.10), Jeff MacMillan finished 13th (4:22.07) and Mat Abernethy was the 14th-place finisher in 4:22.76. Ryan Jacobs and Martin Grady rounded out the Irish competitors with 15th place (4:23.48) and 17th place (4:27.71), in that order.

400-Meter Dash – Patrick Feeney was the first-place finisher in 48.17, followed by Edward Hitchler in second place (48.40) and Matthew Brown in third place (50.23). Eric Roth finished in fifth place in 52.03.

800-Meter Run – Jack Howard was the first-place finisher in 1:52.64, followed by Mitch Lorenz in third place in 1:53.17 and Zac Suriano finished fourth (1:54.83). Eddy Gibbons finished fifth in 1:56.86.

200-Meter Dash – Miklos Szebeny finished in third place (22.36), followed by Brendan Dougherty in fourth place (22.88) and Sean Lindbloom in fifth place (22.93). Princely Muro was the sixth-place finisher (23.37).

3,000-Meter Run – Thomas Pesch finished second in 8:40.34, followed by Thomas Noel in third place (8:44.06) and Kyle Higdon in sixth place in 9:23.80.

1,600-Meter Relay – Notre Dame “A” (Hitchler, Brown, Dougherty, Feeney) finished in first place in 3:18.92, followed by Notre Dame “D” finished in third place in 3:21.51. Notre Dame “B” finished in fourth (3:22.40) and Notre Dame “E” finished fifth in 3:22.84.

Long Jump – Justin Schneider finished third (6.43m), followed by Patrick Glass in fourth place (6.28m) and Connor Paladino in fifth place (6.09m). Dean Odegard and Alex Bavis finished in sixth place (5.99m) and seventh place (5.89m), respectively.

Triple Jump – Patrick Glass was the first-place finisher (13.71m), while Connor Paladino finished second (12.97m). High Jump – Doug Onuscheck finished second (1.95m).

Pole Vault – Kevin Schipper was the first-place finisher (5.10m), followed by Andrew Kolbeck in fourth place (4.70m) and Dean Odegard finished sixth (4.35m). Benigno Sandoval finished seventh (4.15m).

Weight Throw – Greg Davis finished first (17.68m), followed by Mitchell Gormley in second place (16.94) and John Belcher in third place (16.89m). Andrew Hills was the fourth-place finisher (16.60m). Mike Smigelski, Anthony Thomas and Denes Veres finished in sixth (16.04m), seventh (15.78m) and eighth place (15.37m), respectively.

Shot Put – John Belcher finished in second place (16.33m), followed by Denes Veres in fourth place (16.15m) and Andrew Hills in fifth place (16.05m). Anthony Thomas finished in sixth place (14.85m) and Andrew Brock finished seventh (14.82m).
