SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – Freshman Troy Murphy’s 16 points led Notre Dame to an 83-56 win over Central Michigan on Saturday.
The Irish (3-5), who never trailed in the game, used their size advantage to outrebound the Chippewas 49-36.
Central Michigan (3-4) shot 23 percent from the field in the first half and trailed Notre Dame 48-20 at halftime.
Notre Dame kept Central Michigan off the scoreboard for the first five and a half minutes of the game until Jason Webber hit a basket to make the score 13-2.
Notre Dame’s David Graves got the Irish going with nine of his 15 points in the first half and Jimmy Dillon hit two three-pointers that gave the Irish its largest lead of the half at 37-7.
The Irish took their biggest lead of the game at 68-34 with 11:15 left in the second half before the Chippewas narrowed the gap to 21.
