Irish Dominate 45th National Catholic Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame cross country teams both earned commanding victories at the 45th National Catholic Invitational on Friday afternoon at the Burke Golf Course.
A patch of inclement weather in the afternoon led to a race format adjustment to a single start by the women and the men at 4:15 p.m.
WOMEN’S RACE
The No. 3 ranked women’s team posted a perfect team score of a 15 to capture the title in the 5k race. Freshman Mary Bonner Dalton took first place overall while running unattached with a time of 16:46.3. Classmate Isabel Allori also ran unattached and finished second with a 16:47.3. Erin Strzelecki was the first official scoring runner to cross the finish line and turned in a 16:47.5.
Arianne Olson ran a 16:55.6 while Caroline Lehman (17:09.3) and Siona Chisholm (17:09.9) posted tight back-to-back finishes. Sophie Novak wrapped up the team title for the Irish with a 17:12.5. Gretchen Farley (17:15.9) and Brigdet Gallagher (17:31.6) were in the lineup for the Irish and also finished in the top 15 overall. Amaya Aramini (17:16.1) and Nicki Southerland (17:19.7) were both in the top 15 as unattached runners in the race.

MEN’S RACE
The No. 7 ranked men turned in a score of 16 en route to claiming the team title on Friday. Carter Solomon powered his way to the individual title to help pace the Irish after running a 23:40.5 in the 8k race. Daelen Ackley posted a 23:43.4 for second place. Brody Hartley (23:49.5) and Izaiah Steury (23:50.7) finished within moments of one another for third and fourth place, respectively.
Cole Nash closed out the team score with a time of 23:54.1 to finish seventh overall. Drew Griffith (23:52.8) and Jason Parra (23:54.6) ran unattached and were in the top ten with sixth and eighth place finishes on the afternoon. Sean Kay (23:56.4) and Robert Cozean (24:00.7), meanwhile, gave the Irish nine of the top ten finishers at the race.
