Irish Down Syracuse Friday, 6-2

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The University of Notre Dame softball team (18-26, 7-12 ACC) secured the series opener Friday afternoon, taking down Syracuse 6-2 on the road. The seven ACC wins this season match last year’s total, with still five conference games to be played.

Six runs continue to be the magic number for the Irish. Notre Dame is now 13-0 when scoring six or more runs this season.

With a one-run lead heading into the sixth inning, the Irish offense put up four runs on five hits to cushion their advantage. Caitlyn Early had a two-run, pinch-hit single into the gap in right center field before a Caroline O’Brien single up the middle scored Early. The Irish also got a double from Lily Hagan early in the inning as the freshman continued to display the pop in her bat.

Seven different Irish collected hits, including Hagan, who posted a multi-hit game and a walk. Notre Dame hit .429 leading off an inning and .333 with runners on base.

Notre Dame got a gem in the circle from senior Micaela Kastor, as the right-hander struck out five Orange in five innings. She allowed just one earned run and picked up her fifth win of the season and 32nd of her career. Kami Kamzik finished off the final two innings, striking out a pair.

The Irish go for the series tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. on ACCNX.
