TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Notre Dame baseball team was on the short end of a 6-4 final against No. 8 Florida State in the series finale on Sunday afternoon.
Dylan Singleton retired the side in order on just 12 pitches in the bottom of the first inning. Mark Quatrani cut down a runner trying to steal third, and Singleton faced the minimum in the bottom of the second.
Drew Berkland hit a double to left field, and Mark Quatrani added a two-out double of his own to right-center to drive in Berkland for the first run of the game.
The Seminoles put a runner on third with just one out, but Singleton and the Irish stifled the chance. Singleton used a strikeout for the second out of the inning before inducing an easy fly ball to the outfield to end the threat.
Jayce Lee had an infield single and moved to second on an errant throw to start the fourth. Brandon Logan used a sacrifice bunt to move Lee to third, and Dylan Passo singled to left field for the 2-0 Irish advantage.
Florida State drew even in the bottom of the fourth with a single and a home run to make it a 2-2 game. Oisin Lee came in and shut the door on a scoring chance by inducing a soft groundout to end the inning.
The Irish broke the tie in the top of the fifth. Bino Watters drew a lead-off walk before Brandon Logan drew a two-out walk for the Irish. Dylan Passo reached on a dropped third strike to load the bases, and Jamie Zee laced a single to center field, driving in both Watters and Logan on the play.
Oisin Lee and Noah Rooney both made the Seminoles strand a runner on first base in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively, as the Irish continued to hold the 4-2 lead.
Florida State pushed four runs across in the bottom of the seventh to gain a 6-4 advantage late.
Will Jaisle retired the side in order in the bottom of the eighth. The Irish were unable to capitalize on a Bino Watters single in the ninth in the 6-4 setback in the series finale.
Mark Quatrani went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Drew Berkland had a double and scored a run. Bino Watters and Jayce Lee each added a hit and scored a run while Watters walked three times. Jamie Zee drove in a pair with a hit, and Dylan Passo collected a hit and an RBI in the contest. Brandon Logan scored once.
Dylan Singleton went 3.2 with the start and struck out three in a no-decision outing. Oisin Lee had a strikeout and allowed just one hit and no runs in 1.1 innings. Noah Rooney suffered the pitching loss in 1.2 innings of work. Will Jaisle went the final 1.1 and tallied three strikeouts.
The Irish (17-18, 7-14 ACC) travel to Michigan State for a midweek contest on Wednesday, April 22 starting at 6:00 p.m. ET.
