2022 Stitch Intercollegiate Results
The University of Notre Dame men’s golf team has established itself as one of the most consistent units in the country this season and continued its stellar team play with a second-place finish at the Stitch Intercollegiate, hosted by NC State at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, North Carolina, on April 8-9.
The competition was a preview of the drama to come at the 2022 ACC Championship (April 20-25) as three ACC teams battled back and forth at the top of the leaderboard.
Notre Dame held first place through the first two rounds, eventually edged out by Duke in the third round by three strokes. The Irish finished even for the tournament at 864, tied with host NC State and behind the Blue Devils at 861 (-3).
Graduate student Davis Chatfield and senior Taichi Kho led the Notre Dame team effort, both finishing three under par at 213 with four other competitors in second place.
For Chatfield, the second place finish (71-70-72, 213, -3) is the best of his outstanding career, edging a third-place effort at the 2017 Fighting Irish Classic and a fourth-place finish earlier this year at the Stephens Cup.
Kho continued his late spring season surge this weekend and has now posted seven consecutive rounds at-or-below par dating back to the Schenkel Invitational on March 20. At the Stitch Intercollegiate, Kho carded a 69-72-72 (213, -3) with the first round effort representing his fourth consecutive round below 70.
Junior Palmer Jackson turned in another steady effort to take 10th place (71-76-71, 218, +2) and log his eighth top-10 finish in 10 tournaments for the Irish this season.
