Harrisonburg, Va. – The James Madison Dukes scored the first three goals of the game and never trailed as they handed Notre Dame its fourth straight loss, 10-5, at the JMU Lacrosse Complex on Sunday afternoon.

The loss, the third on Notre Dame’s three-game Spring Break trip, leaves the Irish with a 1-4 overall record while James Madison improves to 3-1 on the season. The Irish are now off until Tuesday, March 22, when they play host to the California Golden Bears at Moose Krause Stadium in a 4:30 p.m. game.

The Irish offense was paced by senior Lindsay Shaffer (Seneca Falls, N.Y.) who scored twice while junior Mary McGrath (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) added a goal and two assists for a three-point afternoon. Kaki Orr (So., Darien, Conn.) and Brittany Fox (Annapolis, Md.) scored single goals for the Irish.

After James Madison jumped out to a 3-0 lead, Notre Dame rallied to cut the lead to 3-2 with 15:45 left in the first half, before the Dukes ran off four unanswered goals to take a 7-2 lead at the half.

The Irish never got any closer than five goals the rest of the way, making it 8-3 at 14:44 and 10-5 with 3:29 left in the game.

Sophomore Kelly Berger with four goals and an assist led James Madison and junior Brooke McKenzie added three goals in the win for the Dukes.

The Dukes out shot Notre Dame by a 26-21 margin in the game. Senior Carol Dixon (Pennsauken, N.J.) surrendered 10 goals while making eight saves for the Irish. James Madison’s Amy Altig made nine saves in 50:24, giving up three goals while Livvy King gave up two goals with no saves in 9:36 of action.
