COLLEGE PARK, Md. — John Mooney, Prentiss Hubb and Juwan Durham combined to score 39 of Notre Dame’s 51 total points, but the Fighting Irish fell to the Maryland Terrapins 72-51 on the road Wednesday in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
The defeat dropped Notre Dame’s overall record to 6-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Notre Dame held a slim 11-8 advantage midway through the first frame but Maryland finished the half strong to take a 32-20 lead into the halftime break.
Maryland kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 40-22 advantage before Notre Dame went on a 6-0 run to shrink the deficit to 40-28 with 16:33 to go in the contest. Maryland responded and outscored the Fighting Irish the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 72-51.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Mooney continued his strong run of play, leading the Irish in points and rebounds en route to his fifth double-double of the season. The senior finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds, knocking down three shots from beyond the arc.
NOTES
- Mooney posted his fifth double-double of the season in just seven outings and the 26th double-double of his career (17 pts, 12 reb).
- Hubb finished in double figures for the third time this season and 15th time in his career with 13 points.
