Irish Finish in 6th Place at Bighorn Invitational

PALM DESERT, Calif. – The University of Notre Dame men’s golf team shot a 289 (+1) on the final day of the Bighorn Invitational to finish in sixth place among a 12-team field which featured five teams ranked inside Golfweek’s top-50. The Irish carded a tournament total of 852, good for 12-under par, which marks their best tournament score this spring.

All-in-all, four Irish golfers finished under-par for the tournament led by a 14th place finish by Davis Chatfield, who carded a 211, five-under par. It marked Chatfield’s best tournament score this season.

“A very positive week for Notre Dame Golf,” head coach John Handrigan stated. “Coach Gump and I are proud of this team and how far we’ve come this year. We are not done yet. We will continue to improve and I have a great feeling about our next tournament at Clemson.”

FINAL ROUND
Chatfield did not record a single round over-par, shooting a 71 (-1) on Saturday. The freshman notched a strong front-nine where he was three-under.

Ben Albin tied for 18th by tournament’s end, finishing with a 213 (-3). It marked the second straight tournament the junior finished three-under par. Albin’s round was highlighted by four straight birdies on holes No. 3-6.

Miguel Delgado tallied the best outing on the day with a 70 (-2). Delgado carded an eagle on the par-5 third hole before playing bogey-free golf on the back half. As a result, Delgado finished with a 214 total (-2), tying for 21st.

John Felitto also tied for 21st along with Delgado, finishing with a 214 total. Felitto’s final round was spoiled by a +4 over the final three holes, earning a one-over par for the day.

UP NEXT
The Irish will have a little time off before returning to competition at the Clemson Invitational, April 13-15, in Keowee Falls, South Carolina.
