Irish Finish in Seventh Place at Schenkel Inv.

STATESBORO, Ga. – The University of Notre Dame men’s golf team carded the second-best score among the 14-team field in the final round of the Schenkel Invitational on Sunday. The Irish shot a seven-under par, 281, to move up two spots in the standings to finish in seventh place.

Notre Dame’s John Felitto, who was competing as an individual, finished in 10^th place with a 211, five-under par, tournament score. It marked his second ever top-10 finish and the lowest 54-hole total of his career.

Ben Albin recorded the strongest outing on the day for the Irish, carding a 68, four-under-par for the round, to finish tied for 12^th at 213 (-3).

“Our team played a good round of golf today with a chance for it to be a great round,” Notre Dame head coach John Handrigan said. “We still need to work on some discipline with our course management but overall very happy with this team. This is a great group of guys who are progressing nicely.

“I’m very happy and proud of John (Felitto). A top-10 in this field is impressive. Ben (Albin) played outstanding today and was a major impact. I’m already looking forward to next week.”

FINAL ROUND
Felitto netted four birdies on the day, three on the back-nine, to finish one-under par for the round.

Albin came firing out of the gates, boasting a five-under par through the front-nine. A bogey on the par-4 10^th was the only hiccup, as Albin then carded eight straight pars. Albin’s 68, four-under par, ties for the third best round on the year for an Irish player. His 213 (-3) marked his second best tournament this season.

Both Miguel Delgado and Davis Lamb shot a 71, one-under par, for the day. Lamb finished tied for 23^rd in the tournament with a 215 (-1). Delgado finished tied for 37^th with a 217 (+1). Kevin Conners rounded out the team scoring today with a 71 as well.

ON DECK
The Irish return to the West Coast for the K-State Bighorn Invitational next weekend. The two-day tournament will take place at the Bighorn Golf Course in Palm Desert, California, starting Friday, March 23.
