STATESBORO, Ga. – The University of Notre Dame men’s golf team carded the second-best score among the 14-team field in the final round of the Schenkel Invitational on Sunday. The Irish shot a seven-under par, 281, to move up two spots in the standings to finish in seventh place.
Notre Dame’s John Felitto, who was competing as an individual, finished in 10th place with a 211, five-under par, tournament score. It marked his second ever top-10 finish and the lowest 54-hole total of his career.
Ben Albin recorded the strongest outing on the day for the Irish, carding a 68, four-under-par for the round, to finish tied for 12th at 213 (-3).
“Our team played a good round of golf today with a chance for it to be a great round,” Notre Dame head coach John Handrigan said. “We still need to work on some discipline with our course management but overall very happy with this team. This is a great group of guys who are progressing nicely.
“I’m very happy and proud of John (Felitto). A top-10 in this field is impressive. Ben (Albin) played outstanding today and was a major impact. I’m already looking forward to next week.”
FINAL ROUND
Felitto netted four birdies on the day, three on the back-nine, to finish one-under par for the round.
Albin came firing out of the gates, boasting a five-under par through the front-nine. A bogey on the par-4 10th was the only hiccup, as Albin then carded eight straight pars. Albin’s 68, four-under par, ties for the third best round on the year for an Irish player. His 213 (-3) marked his second best tournament this season.
