TALLAHASSEE, Fl. – Notre Dame women’s cross country took fifth place in the NCAA national championship race with Maddie Denner and Olivia Markezich finishing ninth and 11th, respectively.
Denner took ninth overall with a time of 19:37.7, while Markezich took 11th with a time of 19:38.0. Lauren Bailey posted a time of 20:14.0 taking 62nd, and right behind her was teammate Erin Strzelecki with a time of 20:23.4 in 80th place. Katie Rose Blachowicz clocked in at 20:31.0.
This race for the Fighting Irish women’s cross country team marks the seventh top-10 finish in program history. This is their third best finish ever, with the last top-five finish coming in 2004.
The men’s side of things saw the Irish finish ninth overall with Dylan Jacobs finishing at 28:57.5. Danny Kilrea came across the finish line at 29:28.0 taking 31st and Matthew Carmody took 49th at 29:38.3. Joshua Methner crossed the finish line at 30:19.8 taking 117th. Anthony Russo rounded out the top five for the Irish at 30:27.3 in 131st.
This finish for the men marks the third straight top-ten finish for the Irish.
Northern Arizona won the title with 92 points and BYU’s Conner Mantz won the individual title by finishing in 28:33.1.
