NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame track and field teams kick their outdoor season into high gear this week as the Irish travel to Stanford, Calif., for the Stanford Invitational.
“It’s a very good meet in all the events,” says head coach Joe Piane. “It’s probably better in the distance, but it’s also very good in the sprints. Texas A&M will be there, and they have awfully good sprinters. It will be a very good meet all the way around.”
The outdoor season is especially different from the indoor season because the ACC Championships are much earlier in the season-the event is only two weeks away at this point. Piane says Notre Dame will use this weekend as an opportunity to prepare for that big challenge ahead, but also in hopes of getting some qualifying times for the national meet.
“The Stanford Invite is an opportunity to get a qualifying time for the NCAA Regional meet,” he explains.
The action gets started tomorrow, April 4 at 9:00 a.m. and runs through Saturday afternoon. Live results are available on the Stanford website.
