The Notre Dame baseball team (2-4) continues the challenging start to its 2007 season by playing in this weekend’s Stetson Invitational, with games scheduled vs. Stetson (Fri., March 2; 7:00 p.m.), Nebraska and Iowa … note that weather issues affecting Nebraska’s travel plans may result in a shifting of the weekend schedule for this tournament (stay tuned to und.com for updates) … junior RHP Joey Williamson is slated to make the third start of his ND career (and first since 2005) while Stetson is expected to counter with junior RHP Corey Kluber (2.16 ERA, 3-0, 3 GS, 16.2 IP, 13 Ks, 5 BB, 10 H/.172 opp. avg.) … Williamson has yet to allow a run in two appearances this season while holding opponents to a .190 batting avg., with six strikeouts and just one walk in 6.0 innings … ND’s probable rotation for the rest of the weekend includes junior LHP Wade Korpi and sophomore RHP David Phelps … another sophomore RHP, standout closer Kyle Weiland, also could return to action this week after missing the first six games due to a collarbone injury … ND’s first six opponents currently own a 49-29 combined record (this weekend’s three foes have combined to go 15-6) … this marks the 10th straight season that the Irish have made at least one trip to Florida (ND is 33-8 in Florida during the current decade, including 7-1 during the 2006 season) … the potential ND-Nebraska game would match two of the current decade’s winningest college baseball teams, among nearly 300 on the Division I level (ND is 4th on that list at .727/326-122-2, followed by Nebraska in 5th at .723/336-129-0).
