PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — The Notre Dame men’s golf team finds itself in 15th place after Monday’s second round of the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational, being played at the Sawgrass Golf Club/Oceanside East-West Course (par 72/6,985 yards) in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The Irish have a two-round total of 49-over par 625 (311-314) and will enter Tuesday’s final round 31 shots behind tournament leader (and fifth-ranked) Alabama.
Senior All-America candidate Cole Isban (South Bend, Ind./Mishawaka Marian) remains Notre Dame’s top scorer, currently situated in a tie for 27th place in the 78-man field at eight-over par 152 (76-76). Sophomore Josh Sandman (Greensboro, N.C./Southeast Guilford) also shot a 76 on Monday and moved up to a tie for 49th place at 12-over par 156 (80-76). Junior Eddie Peckels (Pinehurst, N.C./Pope John Paul II (Fla.)) and senior co-captain Adam Gifford (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth) both found the going rough on Monday and now are among a group tied for 59th place at 15-over par 159 — Peckels shot rounds of 78 and 81, while Gifford has scores of 77 and 82. Freshman Doug Fortner (Tustin, Calif./Foothill) is in 70th place at present with a 17-over par 161 (80-81).
Notre Dame will close out play at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday beginning at 8:39 a.m. (ET), with Notre Dame’s starting five scheduled to go off at nine-minute intervals from the 10th tee.
