NEW LONDON, N.C. – The University of Notre Dame men’s golf team battled hard in round two to remain in second place and within striking distance of the leader at the ACC Championships. The Irish, who are tied with No. 15 Clemson at 17-under par, sit just six strokes back from No. 5 Georgia Tech heading into Sunday’s final round.

The previous best finish at the ACC Championships in both place and score was Notre Dame’s first year in the league, recording a seventh place showing after finishing eight-over par. Keep in mind, eight teams ranked inside Golfstat’s top-50 comprise the field of this year’s ACC Championships.

SECOND ROUND
Davis Chatfield continues to lead by example for the Irish, remaining in the top-10, now tied for eighth with a six-under par for the tournament. The freshman recorded a mistake-free, three-under par back-nine to card a 71 (-1) for the round. Chatfield is tied with two other individuals for the best scoring on par-three’s for the tournament – two-under par on those holes.

However, the best round on the team today belonged to John Felitto. The sophomore climbed six spots in the standings after shooting a 69 (-3), joining Davis Lamb in a tie for 12th place, both at five-under par overall.

Speaking of Lamb, the sophomore was on fire on the back-nine, tallying a birdie on four of the first six holes, until a double-bogey on the par-5 18th spoiled the round. Despite the blemish, Lamb still carded a solid two-under par, 70 round, notching a team best seven birdies on the day. In fact, Lamb leads the entire field in total birdies for the tournament with 13.

Rounding out the countable Notre Dame scores on Saturday was Miguel Delgado, who shot an even-par, 72. Delgado ranks second in the tournament in total pars with 27, and is now tied for 30th place at one-under par.
